I founded UWL SURFBOARDS in 1991 in La Rochelle with my brother Thomas Cardinal. Another time when you could take your time and do a good job... and that's what we're still trying to do!

I've always had a passion for craftsmanship, and I was lucky enough to travel at a very young age and meet some of the great names in shaping. But I never thought it was always better elsewhere, so we started inviting shapers who had opened their doors to me, and little by little a connection was created around our passion for surfing and shaping, and now UWL Factory welcomes a dozen shapers a year from all over the world (Neal Purchase, Malcolm Campbell, Jeff McCallum, Thomas Bexon, Stu kenson , Josh Martins, Joel fidgerald...).

We had to adapt to meet their high standards. The factory is 700m2, with a surfshop, an APS3000 CNC, a printer for all our fiberglass prints, a constant stock of 1,000 loaves and 11 full-time employees, always ready to give their all for the company.
